PK Studios is pleased to announce that three of our colleagues have just received their LEED AP certification!  Congratulations to Denise Couture Cowell, ASID, CAPS, LEED AP; Judith Da Rocha, LEED AP; and Edie O’Reilly, ASID, LEED AP. That means our entire Interior Design studio is now fully accreditted under LEED!
 
LEED certification is a recognition that a construction project or building can attain by utilizing environmentally friendly building practices during construction or remodeling. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The U.S. Green Building Council developed the LEED Green Building Rating System in 1999 in an effort to encourage environmental awareness and improve the quality of buildings and their impact on the environment.

According to the USGBC, “Buildings in the U.S. use one-third of our total energy, two-thirds of our electricity, one-eighth of our water, and transform land that provides valuable ecological resources.  Using green design principles helps reduce the negative impacts of buildings. Green design provides numerous benefits including: making a positive impact on public health and the environment, reducing operating costs, enhancing building and organizational marketability, potentially increasing occupant productivity and helping to create a sustainable community.”

LEED certification is attained on four different levels, which are determined by a point system. The levels of LEED certification are Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.  A building or project can attain LEED certification by submitting an application that documents compliance with the requirements set forth in the LEED rating system. The Green Building Council issues LEED certification upon satisfactory application, review and compliance verification. 

PK Studios is proud of the dedication and fortitude of its team.  This brings our firm to a total of four LEED AP certified professionals, including Brandt Henning from our architectural team.
